The last game of the year was a true represenation of the high caliber of the 2009 OWPL. A close game to the end with beautiful goals and some amazing saves from both goalies. Congratulations to the Ottawa Sternes. The 2009 Sternes roster:

In a close game the Sternes beat the Titans and finished 1st in the 2009 OWPL regular season.

So it looks like the young jedis are facing off against the vets in both games. My money is on the old guys but this year, you never know for sure!

These are always the best games of the league. The 2 youngest and most energetic teams facing off against one another. A close one to the end, the Titans' took the 3 points due to their slightly more dangerous offensive players and a deeper bench.

A solid game from both teams. The Ravens were only handicapped by their goal tending - and perhaps by Dusan's goal tending : )

The GG's got distroyed tonight in every aspect of the game. The Meyers, despite not having any subs, dominated the Ottawa U team completely. Not much more can be said.

Another big game for ther Meyers, that they almost let slip out of their hands. The Hull boys turned on the jets in the last quarter and almost tied up the game. Coach Milan Stevanovic has nothing to be ashamed of. His young team gets better with every game.

McNaught gets 2nd annual goal!

All jokes aside... He did. Big game for both teams. The Ravens were on fire, despite still being hurt by sick players. The Meyers were lucky to win in the end but nevertheless they walked away with 3 points. Oh yeah... Sasa scored 9 (!!!) goals : )

Wow. When a league's last place team ties the league's 1st place team, you know the league is competitive. The GG's pulled off a tie today and managed to improve on their standings significantly. Scott Caswell's 8 goal (!!!) performance speaks for itself and there is not much to add to that. The Sternes keep their 1st place ranking while the GG's move into 5th place. Caswell takes over the scoring lead, just as he did in his prime a few years ago.

If there was ever an OWPL game that the writing staff of this page wanted to end with a tie, it was this one. With 7-8 players well over 220 pounds (heck, let's count them: Kico, Aco, Boban, Sasa, Milan, Billy, Zoli, Fedja, Marco, Stefan, Tristan, Gordo) ok, make that 12 players over 220, this game was bound to get physical. Add to the fact that the winner moved into 1st place and that Meyers' goal tender Tanguay wasn't available to play the game got really heated. Fun to watch nevertheless. In the end the Sternes walked away with the 3 points but it could have gone either way. Stefan's 5 goal performance was enough to tie Zoltan's for 1st place on the scoring list.

Not the highest caliber game (though not free of emotions), the GG's out played the Ravens who are still showing signs of fatigue and lacking concentration after their huge OUA success. The Ravens looked drained, unmotivated and unfocused and the GG's had no problems capitalizing on the situation. Caswell led the scoring, as usual with 4, while Tommy Baker delivered numerous kickouts on an assembly line. Dejan Suletic scored 3 for the Ravens and thus becoming the highest goal scorer for Carleton so far in this season.

The Meyers never gave the Titan kids a chance. Physically much stronger, they over powered them in this game. The Titans however showed a lot of promise and will certainly benefit from these games when they play other teams of the samer age group and "weight-class". 

The young Hull team didn't go down without a fight and there were times when they were equal opponents to the much stronger and bigger Sternes. Their lack of intimidation from Dusan Aleksic was particularly impressive as the Hull players managed to beat Dusan from the outside more often then other, more experienced teams. Stefan Pavicevic led the scoring in this game with 4 goals.

The Ravens surprised everyone by playing a near perfect game that was a pleasure to watch. The Sternes' experience on paper was no match for the Ravens uncompromising press D and their superior conditioning, which is the result of being forced to play with 8-9 players the whole season. The Sternes key players eventually reached a frustration boiling point at which time everything fell apart for them. The Ravens were patient, smart and unified as a team. Their best game of the year by far.

The GG's were out matched by the Meyers' superior basics and game experience. In addition to Csepregi's 6 goals the Meyers out played the GG's virtually everywhere tonight. Lone warrior Scott Caswell scored all 5 of the GG's goals. On the other side Nick Fox also proved to be invincible and added 3 of his own to propel him to the top of the scoring list.

Five minutes into the warm-up you could tell that this was going to be a good game! Both teams at full strength, warming up and getting ready as it were Finals at Nationals. The small CEGEP pool was packed and ready for an entertaining game. The game was good but in reality the Titans never stood a chance tonight. The Sternes finally flexed their dormant muscles and proved that they are serious contenders for the 2009 OWPL title. The Titans' problem was 2-fold. First, their hole-man were unable to hold their positions in the center. (Make no mistake, Lyle Brooks is a serious threat in the center but the Sternes' 230 lbs plus hole checks rotating on him was too much even for him. Especially combined with a 2-3-4 drop.) Secondly, the bigger problem for the Titans proved to be Dusan. Dusan owned all the shooters in this game and the game was basically over before the 1st shot was ever taken. Dusan, seemingly floating in the air with his close to 7 foot wingspan was focused and completely in charge. As a result the Titans didn't get their 1st goal until the middle of the 3rd quarter. They "respected" Dusan so much that all they could muster up were posts and weird spin lobs that missed the net by meters at times. What the Titans have to realize is that shooting on one of the best Junior goal tenders in the world should not be a source of fear and intimidation. They need to enjoy and appreciate the opportunity to play against an outstanding player such as Dusan and challenge him as much as he challenges them. Shooting is at least 50% in the head and in this game Dusan won that part before the Titans ever took a shot.

The Ravens' only disadvantage is their goalie situation. Forced to use Logan Seaman in nets, partly due to his injury, partly do to the fact that he is the best non-goalie goalie on the team, the Ravens stood their ground and even took the lead at certain points against the powerful Meyers. Sasa (7) and Zoltan (5) were the main scorers as usual but even Professor McNaught added his annual goal in this narrow victory. The Ravens radiate with potential, despite the lack of a goalie, and they are more then ready for their 1st OUA game of the season against the reigning OUA Champs, U of T this Saturday.

Much easier then expected, the young Hull team, under the guidance of Milan Stevanovic, stole the 3 points from the GG's. Milan credits the win to their crash D, which limited the close range center shots from Caswell and Baker who still managed to score all of the GG's goals with 3 and 2 hits resp. Hard shooter (and miniature bodybuilder) Vukola is starting to realize his full potential as he led the scoring with 5 goals propelling him high up on the scoring list!

With their full line up the Meyers are too strong for the Hull team right now but still the youngsters never backed down and held their own especially against the Meyers' 2nd line up. David Lapins is a force to be reckoned with on the Hull team whereas on the Meyers' side Csepregi showed everyone why he was last year's MVP (both in the OWPL and in the MLWP!!) and popped in 6 goals like it was his full time job. While Zoltan made that look easy, Sasa also added 4 of his own. Note worthy to mention is Andras' double dinger in the top right corner from 7 meters out (and not just because I'm the one writing this : )

With the "proper" combination of absentees, this game turned out to be perfectly balanced. Lacking enthusiasm and some key players from both sides the Sternes held on to their 1 goal lead in the last minute and won the game. Still winless after 3 games the GG's, as usual, are slowly improving with every game.

A fine game from both teams. Not too much to analyze. The fact is that the Ravens are seriously handicapped by their goal tender situation and their (excellent) press D can only help so much. In short, the Titans' shooters outgunned the Ravens, who fought the good fight 'til the bitter end. The one area that needs improvement on the Ravens' side is their passing. 1 bad pass is too many in a game, 8-10 is unacceptable. We'll chalk it up to fatigue as they played with only 1 sub tonight.

In what turned out to be a very close game, the young Titans' team finally came out on top. Armed with their youthful energy and their ever-improving NDC basics, the Titans always looked in charge, even when they were down by 2 goals. The GG's managed to hang on even take the lead several times but it was always clear that the Titans will step it up when really needed. The press worked well for the GG's (when they actually did it) and Caswell's 270 lbs was more then enough to neutralize Lyle Brooks in the center, who in turn didn't go down without a good fight. A great game for the GG's who have added a few solid players to their roster this year. Scott Also, Caswell's double-dinger from 9 meters is noteworthy to mention.
